The roots of the Society for Rural Development and Action (SRDA) trace back to 1984, when a committed group of social workers united around a common purpose: to confront the pressing social and economic challenges facing rural communities. Through their work and deep engagement with the people, they uncovered a troubling reality: high rates of illiteracy, especially among women and children in remote areas; a widespread lack of awareness about rights and welfare schemes; and deteriorating health and environmental conditions.
It became clear that sustainable change could not come from outside intervention alone. Real transformation requires empowering communities from within by helping people understand their challenges, organise themselves, and take collective action.
With this belief, SRDA was born. It began as a grassroots movement to educate, organise, and uplift rural populations, laying the groundwork for self-reliance and long-term development. What started as a small initiative has grown into a mission-driven organisation committed to building stronger, more informed, and resilient communities.
