Current Activities of SRDA Thaltukhor (2025u201326)

Fuel & Fodder Plantation Programme

Agriculture and cattle rearing are the main livelihoods in the project area. Communities depend on forests for firewood and green fodder, while cattle dung is used for preparing organic manure to support natural farming. To reduce pressure on forests and improve local resource availability, SRDA planted more than 3,000 fuel and fodder plants with active participation of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs).nn

Impact:
nnImproved availability of fuelwood and fodder at the village level, reduced dependence on forest resources, and strengthened community participation in environmental conservation and sustainable livelihood practices.

Strengthening Land and Forest Rights for Marginalized Communities

In Himachal Pradesh, the implementation of the Forest Rights Act has remained slow and uneven, leaving many forest-dependent communities without formal recognition of their rights despite long-standing use of land and forests. Through sustained community engagement- districts to build awareness, support claim processes, and strengthen local institutions such as Gram Sabhas and Forest Rights Committees, under the Forest Rights Act, the Society for Rural Development & Action has enabled forest-dependent communities to secure formal rights over land and forests, strengthening tenure security in Himachal Pradesh. A key milestone was achieved in 2026 with the recognition of 29 individual OTFD forest rights titles in Sirmaur—the first in the district—benefiting marginalized and landless households and advancing inclusive, rights-based development.
